What are QR Codes and QR Code Readers?
QR codes, or Quick Response codes, are two-dimensional barcodes that can be read using smartphones, tablets, laptops and dedicated QR reading devices. They link directly to articles, websites, videos, audio, pictures, social media pages and more. All you need is a camera lens on your device and a QR code scanning program which can be downloaded online for free as an app. Websites like www.qr-code-generator.com or qrcode.kaywa.com allow you to generate your own QR codes for free. And it only takes a few clicks! QR technology provides many benefits for teachers at all levels.
To the right is a TED-ED video that serves as an introduction to QR codes and how they can be used in the classroom. YouTube has many other videos that will give you more detailed information about how to use QR codes in the classroom. |

An example of how to use QR codes for independent work or homework:
When the image to the right is clicked, it will take you to a worksheet that I have created with audio directions provided through the QR code. When the QR code is scanned on the worksheet (or here on the computer), the student can complete this paper independently by hearing me read the directions and each number word. |
